Rides

Guest have perhaps some of the widest range of rides found anywhere in the country.  Within the 30,000 acre privately owned Hartsel Springs Ranch are hot springs, outposts, Indian lookouts, Bison herds, ridges, meadows, rivers, and a number of other ride opportunities.  And if that isn’t enough there are 12 state wildlife areas and the highest mountains in Colorado surrounding the area providing unlimited further opportunity.  Our professional staff will work with you to customize a ride suitable for your ability and goals.

As with all of our rides, you will feel that you have been transported back in time to the era of Cowboys, Indian, and the Wild West.  Here are some of the favorite options:

Rinekar Ridge
This ride will take you along a saddle ridge ride amongst large ponderosa  where you will see firsthand why the Ute used to ride these same ridges to hunt and patrol South Park.  With 4 mile creek meandering through the western basin, the South Platte River on the eastern basin, herds of bison or antelope may be seen on the plains. As Pikes Peak, the Sawatch and Mosquito mountain ranges serve as majestic backdrops, the views could not be more spectacular.  As you slowly climb the ridge Elk, mule deer, and rabbit may be only a camera shot away.  This ride is relatively easy an ideal for a ½ day excursion.   Like most rides within Hartsel Springs Ranch, you will be the only group on the ride as property is private and not open to the public.
"Yahoo Rides"
Geared for more experienced riders, this open range ride lets you to open it up a bit with full gallops, trots and open range riding in a variety of locations.  Rides are customized based on your riding preferences.
Hot Springs Ridge
This ride starts in open meadow often with Bison nearby and then climbs the Hartsel Springs Ridge through rock outcroppings into Ponderosa and Spruce.  Ascending the ridge views of the homestead, town of Hartsel, and Pikes Peak will surely catch your eye.  Descending towards the town of Hartsel you’ll pick your way through north sloping pine forest and weave your down until you reach the middle fork of the South Platte.  A few stream crossings and you’ll find yourself at the hot springs amongst historic buildings.
The Outpost
Towards the southern end of the property lays unique rock formations that resemble that of a Hollywood western film set.  Brilliantly colored granite boulders seem oddly placed in the midst of open meadow.  Mountain flowers help accentuate the abounding beauty.  You’ll ride along old stage coach trails until you reach the Outpost featuring historic buildings and an ideal place for photos.
Cattle Drives
Saddle up for a multiday adventure across South Park as you become part of the crew in a ranch to ranch cattle drive.  During the day you will help round cattle, maintain equipment, and assist with general provisioning of the crew.  At night you’ll have a choice between open air or wall tent sleeping arrangements.  Campfire meals will be provided to satisfy the hearty mountain air appetite you will have developed during the course of the day.  You’ll awake at first light, perhaps have a cup of coffee over a campfire and continue on your journey.  Cell phones, email, and Internet never existed in the Wild West and that much remains true today.  This is a lifetime opportunity to really get away from it all and experience life as it was for the cowboy.
